Yesterday marked the second birthday for Kevin Abstract’s album, “Ameican Boyfriend.” It quickly became a modern hit, with its most popular song – Empty – sitting at over 25 million plays on Spotify right now. Kevin is also the founding member of the boyband Brockhampton, whose recent popularity has been drawing comparisons between them and BTS, the biggest boyband in the world right now.
Yesterday, Abstract announced that a clothing line would be going live to celebrate the anniversary. The interesting bit: everything is free. You only have to pay for shipping.
Despite a one-item-per-person limit, the four available sweater styles all sold out within less than 45 seconds of the store’s launch. Virtually no fans seemed to have gotten one, and people are quite upset about the ordeal on Twitter. How many sweaters were even available in the first place? One of each?? I think Kevin Abstract is trolling us with this one. Many people were expecting an announcement of “American Boyfriend: Part 2,” or something of the like. Instead, like four people got free hoodies. I can’t wait to see the resale value on this one.
