America’s winningest goalie in the National Hockey League Ryan Miller has decided to hang up his skates after 18 seasons in the NHL.
The 41 year old native from East Lansing Michigan reflected on his great experience with his four organizations he ever known.
“This was a dream come true when I made my NHL debut and it’s been an inevitable privilege to spend 18 years as a professional. Thank you to my former teammates who supported me on my journey in the National Hockey League and who made my career there possible”.
His 390 career victories rank 14th on the league’s all-time list. Miller made his name when he was with the Buffalo Sabres. He won 284 games over 11 years with 30 victories or more over seven straight seasons from 2005-06 to 2011-12.
In 2010, he established a career high 41 wins, a 2.22 goals against average and a .929 save percentage in capturing the Vezina Trophy. Also, he backstopped Team U.S.A to a silver medal in that year’s Olympics as well.
Miller also played for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks where he spent the last four years as a back-up to fellow United States standout goalie John Gibson. This opens the door for Anthony Stolarz to compete for the back-up role for the Ducks who has performed well for the last seven games this past season.
