Hey! If you clicked this on this, that means you need a new band to love. If you listen to CKDJ, then you’ll love the band I am here to talk about. Meet, Castlefield!
The Ottawa originated band specializes in alternative and indie rock music and signed to “Birdie Records” to release their first EP on March 30th, 2017. They also signed to a record company in Australia, “ Penultimate Records”. The band “got an email from a random guy in Australia”, who happened to be a fan of their work. After some communication and paperwork, they got signed and began their international promotion. As of 2024, there are 7 songs in their discography. Each song has its own unique stories told through lyrics and can be taken in many different ways.
Castlefield consists of 4 members:
Ryan Fitz, guitarist and vocalist.
Connor Neilson, guitarist.
Dexter Reid, bassist.
Matt Spafford, percussionist.
Castlefield’s members write lyrics that everyone can relate to, as they write how they feel. Like myself, and most of us, they used music as a form of self expression and were able to produce some bops! As I listened to their music for the first time, I found myself being transported back to the early 2000’s, when life was so much easier. Walking around with my headphones on, I felt like I was in a cheesy coming of age film, as the main character walking into their first day of school, but in the best possible way!
While the band only has a couple of songs, they all are fantastic in their own way, and all can feature an amazing air guitar if so inclined. Each song also has so much passion behind the music, and it’s so easy to tell each one was made with so much love and thought. My favourite song of theirs is “Best Laid Plans”. The beat and guitar really pump me up and keep the vibes up and helped me stay motivated, enough to clean my ENTIRE room from top to bottom (No literally…my room is so clean). Thanks, Castlefield!
If you like what you hear, you’re in luck, Castlefield is performing LIVE on November 30th, 2024! Catch them at the Tunnel Vision release show at “The 27 Club” in Ottawa, at 27 York Street.
